An interview with Dimitri James the creator of Skinn Cosmetics!
TGW: First of all just let me say that I am honored to be able to interview you. And I really appreciate Lisa Cocuzza bringing us together. What first sparked your interest in beauty products? Who inspired you?
DJ: Both of my grandparents were European estheticians and my earliest memory is of them making lotions and potions in their bathtub for their customers and friends. That said, I’ve always been a student of beauty and transformation. It has just always fascinated me that i can make all women look attractive.
TGW: What was your first product and why did you choose to make that one first?
DJ: My am sulfate free rapid explfoliating cleanser and my pm olive and enzyme rich balm cleanser. My motivation was that proper cleansers just didn’t exist. Most cleansers did more bad than good because they were detergent and chemical based and therefore stripped the skin.
TGW: What was included in your first skin care line and what goals did you want to achieve with it? What did you want it to do for women?
DJ: It was the early 90s and I created a system based on the new alpha hydroxyl acids and created a 3 strength system that women cycled through so that their skin never built up a tolerance to it and the women always experienced the benefits. My goal was to perfect and beautify their skin and offer afordability.
TGW: I read your book becoming beauty and you and I share a common goal, empowering women to be beautiful and glamorous no matter their size, color or economic status. May I have more of your thoughts on this subject?
DJ: I’ve seen from an early age, the power that believing you are beautiful can make in people’s lives. One thing I truly believe is that I can help make any woman on the planet look and feel attractive and we all know how powerful that can be in changing peoples lives.
TGW: What advice can you give to women who might not be able to afford to buy beauty products right now. I know there was a time when I wouldn’t have been able to give a hungry dog a bone! What are some simple things that can be done at home with every day products, to maintain beautiful skin?
DJ: There are easy recipes in my book. Some of the best skincare can be made from normal everyday ingredients found in most kitchens. My suggestion is check out the book.
TGW: I have been looking to develop a signature sugar scrub to go along with my blog The Glamorous W.A.H.M. and I would eventually like to have a bath and body line to offer my readers. What advice do you have to offer a novice like me? lol
DJ: I could create a body line especially for you, wouldn’t that be fun! My suggestion is don’t go to the expense of hiring a chemist to design a line for you. when can private label an incredible body line like we do for other companies both big and small.
TGW: Tell me about the birth of Skinn cosmetics? What were the joys of birthing Skinn and what were some of your obstacles if any?
DJ: The joys were: creating products that really work at a price real women can afford. The obstacle was: finding labs that were up to my standards and realistic about pricing. So I bought my own factory.
TGW: What benefits can women expect from using your Skinn Cosmetics line?
DJ: Mostly anti-aging. I think I can smooth, firm and reduce lines and wrinkles better than other products costing hundreds of dollars per jar.
TGW: You have some serious staying power. You have been giving us glamorous beauty treatments for almost 20 years! What do you contribute to the success of your company, Skinn Cosmetics?
DJ: I am successful because of a promise I made 20 years ago: I’ll never make a product if I can’t make it better than what it’s replaing and cost them less.
TGW: Any last thoughts you care to share with my glamorous readers?
DJ: I’d just like to thank you and your readers so much for giving me the honor of beautifying their skin and helping enhance the overall quality of their lives. That’s really my passion.
