Should women buy Viagra? As many of my readers already know, I have an ongoing struggle with depression. I don’t think I have thanked God enough for Prozac. While antidepressants help women who suffer with depression, unfortunately some of them affect a woman’s sex drive. They actually can decrease her sex drive.
Fortunately that has not been my experience but, for many women taking antidepressants this is not the case. The good news is that, studies have shown that Viagra helps women who experience sexual problems from antidepressant use. According to a Web MD study, ‘‘Seventy-two percent of the women on Viagra vs. 27% of the women on placebo got to ‘much improved’ or ‘very much improved’ on a scale [of sexual functioning],” says Harry A. Croft, MD, medical director of the San Antonio Psychiatric Research Center in Texas and a co-author on the study.
Being depressed is bad enough and to be sexually disfunctional on top of that, is like adding insult to injury! I have often laughed at the cheesy Viagra commercials for men. Now that I know it can help a depressed woman still have a great sex life, I won’t be laughing anymore! I know it was made for men but, I’m thankful that with medical studies, we now know it can help women too.
